Most of the time, having a slow draining sink is an inconvenience rather than a serious problem. There are a large variety of tips and tricks out there across the internet for speeding up your slow draining sinks. However, sometimes a slowly draining sink can actually be a symptom of a much larger problem. The first step is to determine what the source of the problem is. If only one drain is draining slowly, then the problem is probably related to that drain itself or the pluming for that drain. However, if many of your sinks are having the same problem, then the problem must lie elsewhere.

Only One Slow Draining Sink

If only one of your sinks is draining slowly, the problem is most likely a simple clog in that drain or in the pipes which immediately lead out of that drain. Sometimes, this can be fixed by simply removing buildup of debris such as hair using a pair of needle nose pliers through the drain. Other times, you may have to disassemble the pipes that drain the water and clear them of any clogs.

Several Slow Draining Sinks

If several drains in your home are acting up, then you may have a much more serious issue on your hands. You may need to have your lines augered or cleared out using a high pressure water jet. This is something that should only be done by professionals. Otherwise, if it’s done wrong, it could lead to serious plumbing damage.

It Could Be Your Septic System

If your home has a septic system, slow draining sinks may mean you have septic issues. In this case, slow drains will usually be accompanied by gargling sounds and even complete backups on occasion. If you are experiencing these issues you may want to try one of Maxx’s Products’s septic cleaning products as an inexpensive way of fixing things up. Otherwise, you may have to resort to getting your septic system pumped by professionals (a long and expensive ordeal).
